mother places hand on baby

When Jasmeen and Justin reached out to me to do their maternity & newborn photos I was beyond overjoyed. It had been nearly 3 years since the adorable couple had tied the knot at Cavallo Point and now they were expecting the arrival of their very first child! It is always such an honor to document memories like these and being apart of a couple’s journey is what I love the most.
A baby is such a gift and I couldn’t be happier for these two! Jasmeen knew she wanted photos to remember her time being pregnant as well as photos of her newborn. So we decided to do both. Jasmeen loved the idea of being out in nature with big trees but didn’t want to go to far from home or on a big energy draining hike. She was nearing the end of her pregnancy so I did not want her doing a ton of walking either. I thought Glen Park Canyon was the perfect place for them to bring their beautiful furry friend Ginger as well!

It was a foggy day in San Francisco so the lighting was not to harsh. Ginger was in heaven! The mama and daddy to be were so connected and posed naturally in front of the camera. I loved how the two were so easy going and calm. Jasmeen, so beautiful and sweet was easy to direct and up for a nice stroll through the trees. The three of them enjoyed being outside and I enjoyed hearing their plans of nesting when the baby arrives.

About 2 weeks later I got a text from Jasmeen saying the baby had arrived healthy and happy! I couldn’t be more excited for them. With newborn photos I try to loosely block out some time around the baby’s due date but being flexible is key. Babies grow so fast in the first few days of their lives so I wanted to be sure that I was available to photograph baby within the first week or so whilst being sensitive to Jasmeen and her need for rest and recovery. We decided to do photos about a week later in the comfort of their own home. Baby Isaan was absolutely perfect in every way. He was so alert and looked directly at me in my camera lens. (I love when babies do that). He barely fussed but once when he got hungry so I patiently waited for Jasmeen to give the baby a feeding in between the session. Jasmeen and Justin looked so in love and that happy glow of first time parents washed over them.

The natural light in the apartment was perfect. Jasmeen laid baby Isaan on a blanket on the couch where he was safe and I was sure to keep my distance using a longer lens to get some close up photos of the baby.
I love photographing the details of a baby such as his hands, feet and cute little ears. These are the things that change the fastest so I try to capture little baby parts as they are the best to look back on.
I enjoyed being apart of this new beginning with Jasmeen and Justin and baby Isaan and can’t wait to see them again soon!
