I jumped with excitement to photograph this gorgeous couple at the Filoli Gardens and Pulgas Water Temple. Having an engagement session at the Filoli Historic House and Gardens is definitely a magical place offering a feeling of old romance and beauty at every corner. Just south of San Francisco the 654 acre estate was where Rodney and Katya chose to have their love documented on film and digital. They were such an amazing pair filled with light in their eyes for one another and made it a dream for me to photograph them.
We began our session at the Pulgas Water Temple where the Grecian modeled temple was built in 1938. Resting before the temple is a very inviting aqua pool of water. There was no wind so the reflections of the couple were seen in the water so clearly and the light pierced through the trees creating streams of magic. The day started off so calm and gentle photographing Katya & Rodney. They were such an effortless relaxed couple and made my job incredibly easy and fun. There were no people around and it felt as though we had the whole place to ourselves. The perks of shooting engagement sessions during the weekdays is less people.
Katya wore a very stylish one piece white jumpsuit and the cutest two toned shoes. She doted over her incredibly handsome groom who was cleanly dressed in black and white. It was hard not to feel the palpable love between them and all I could think was “how did I get so lucky with these two”. What a treasure.
Next we took a short drive 5 mins away to a very special place called Filoli. The light was incredible through the trees and illuminated the gardens creating a very warm energy of spring on the horizon. Katya had changed into a cute white dress and Christian Louboutin pumps that she so effortlessly walked in on the grass. Rodney wore a dapper suit and suspenders modeling his attire in crisp clean fashion. Katya’s gorgeous bouquet was a festive and colorful arrangement in a pallet of deep corals, hydrangea blue accents and white accented ranunculus. Her bouquet paired nicely against her white dress and the backdrop of the historical brick walls. Honestly I could have spent the entire day just photographing everything. Filoli is a very special venue with such beauty everywhere.
We took a walk through the old Italian cypress trees admiring the landscape and golden sunset. The Georgian-style terraces around the House highlighted sweeping views of the Santa Cruz Mountains. As Rodney led his gorgeous bride around the Renaissance-style gardens I began to notice they fit so perfectly in their surroundings. It was a pleasure to get to know these two in such a gorgeous setting and I am so thrilled with how the images turned out….especially the film scans by Richard Photo Lab.
