Joe & Alexa were simply a dream couple. They were the type of clients that every photographer dreams of…..gorgeous to say the least, but what really made them the stars that they are was their palpable love they felt for one another. It was clear to me that these two were made for each other and what a better way to celebrate their love than at the San Francisco City Hall with a cliffside ceremony that swept us all aways.
Joe was a kind groom and spent the day doting over his beloved bride making sure she was ok every step of the way, and Alexa radiating love brought smiles, laughter and joy to our day. This couple was effortless and easy going in front of the camera and I am more than honored they chose me to photograph their special day.
Joe and Alexa had their hearts set on San Francisco for their elopement because the two fell in love in the little city by the Bay on their first date to sushi and a Giants game. They dated for 7 years in Chicago where they both lived, then at the beginning of the pandemic they decided to move to Joe’s home town Des Moines. They bought a beautiful home together and shortly after moving in Joe popped the question in their kitchen.
We began their wedding day with some getting ready photos at the Fairmont where I met the couple in in person. The view from their hotel overlooked the Fairmont gardens and it was stunning. Alexa’s florals were such a gorgeous palate of rustic corals and soft hues of blush and cream tones.
The couple new they did not want a big wedding so they decided on a San Francisco City Hall Elopement. Of course the San Francisco City Hall is an iconic building that will be sure to have you fall in love. Having your wedding at the City Hall always feels like a palace wedding. The building is absolutely stunning, it is filled with a profound wall to wall history. Both Joe and Alexa (as well as me) were amazed at how empty the City Hall was that day. Sadly a week before their wedding San Francisco issued a mask mandate and we ended up detouring our plans a bit to have a mask free ceremony. Although we ended up only doing photos in the City Hall it was incredibly beautiful and special as the couple exchanged love letters written on post cards to one another on the 4th floor of the City Hall. After spending some time in the San Francisco Beaux-Arts monument we decided to head to one of my favorite spots where the couple would have their ceremony.
There is a magical energy that presents itself in the Headlands. The jagged Cliffside is covered in succulents in an array of colors overlooking a vast ocean that spreads out as far as the eye can see. It was a beautiful day full of sun. Alexa and Joe were married cliffside on a sunny and very windy San Francisco day. The couple exchanged vows and rings with tears of joy sealing their beautiful commitment with a kiss. After the two were pronounced husband and wife by Minister Maggie Joe popped open a beautiful bottle of bubbly and the two enjoyed a toast on the cliffs. Alexa beamed with love for Joe as we walked along the cliffside for their portraits as husband and wife.
It was an incredible ending to such a beautiful day for two amazing humans. Congratulations to the beautiful couple.
