Having a wedding at the magical Starr Lake Vineyards in Windsor California is nothing short of a dream. This new and fabulous Wine Country Lake & Vineyard Estate rests on over 22 acres surrounded by rolling hills and spectacular views of Mt. St. Helena.  With the gorgeous 4 acre lake surrounding the Estate, Starr Lake Vineyards was one of the new up and coming luxury wedding venues to hit the wedding scene.
We were honored to have documented Lexi and Brenden’s special day in the Sonoma wine country haven surrounded by vineyards and the twinkling lights that reflected off the lake below. What a magical day it was for this couple and all the guests that attended.

The color and design of this wedding was a beautiful blend of romantic elegance with classic vibe. The couple chose calming colors of lavender and neutral cream tones which stood out against the natural elements of the mountains, greenery and florals surrounding the Estate grounds. The ceremony took place on the lawn above the lake where the couple exchanged their vows in dappled light. Guests sat comfortably in the warm shade under the trees where they witnessed Lexi & Brenden exchange their vows and rings.

The reception took place in front of the new modern barn built only a few months prior. The French country farm tables that were decorated beautifully included decadent French style white chargers with accents of lavender at each place setting. Florals brought a whimsical presence to the reception tables with soft white Peonies, Lisianthus and compliments of Echinops that offered a pop of color at each table. The light that danced off the tops of the vines in the vineyards created green and gold hues of light that poured in while guests enjoyed dinner and shadows painted lovely details on each of the tables and plate settings.

Just before the sun fell behind the mountains in the distance Laif pulled up the Tesla and we chauffeured the couple to the highest point on the Estate where the light was effervescently present through the trees and backlit the couple for some sunset portraits. The enchanting last moments of the day were watching Lexi and Brendan cuddle up to each other and walk along the grounds in the soft fallen light as husband and wife.
On our way back we were sure to capture people dancing and enjoying desserts before the couple stole away and made their grand exit in a vintage white Rolls-Royce. What an exquisite wine country wedding!

How they met:

Lexi and Brendan met on a dating app called OK Cupid and found they had much in common. Since they both loved the beauty and simplicity of being outdoors the couple planned an upscale and elegant wedding with dusty blue, gold, lavender and green touches to complement the golden hills around the property.

Brendan caught Lexi completely by surprise (after a lot of effort planning the perfect proposal) at Brendan’s University Club. He proposed in a private ballroom with candles, champagne, chocolate covered strawberries, and a beautiful view of Boston with the Charles River below.

From the Bride:

WHAT WAS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND YOUR WEDDING STYLE?

My mom dubbed our wedding style “outdoor elegance.” We wanted to spend as much time outside among the vineyards as possible so our guests could enjoy the beauty of northern California, but we also wanted to avoid anything too rustic or casual- we’d both always dreamed of a big elegant celebration, and it couldn’t have been more perfect.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS LOCATION?

This location chose us, not the other way around. We were having trouble finalizing our wedding plans due to COVID-19, and we met the wonderful owner of our venue by chance at a winery in Healdsburg. She listened to our struggles and insisted we swing by her property on the way home. We fell in love with it at first sight, and we couldn’t be happier with the way it turned out!

HOW DID YOU MEET?

We met online- but we almost never got together when Brendan accidentally gave me the wrong phone number. I’m so glad he figured it out in time to send me a correction!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR PROPOSAL:

Brendan planned the most perfect proposal. I was incredibly suspicious that he was planning to propose because I was at a very busy time in law school, and he was uncharacteristically insisting that we get dressed up and spend the day at our favorite place: the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. After enjoying the museum, he brought me to the University of Massachusetts Club, a regular dinner spot for us with a skyline view of the city, and also where we had our second date. I was still suspicious when we arrived at dinner, but Brendan wasn’t acting nervous at all and he didn’t show any interest in ordering champagne or any other stereotypical “engagement” accoutrement. When he excused himself to take a phone call, I spent a moment telling myself I was completely wrong and he wasn’t proposing at all, that he was just trying to distract me from the stress of law school. Our regular waitress walked up and informed me that there were Christmas lights being lit in the Boston Common below, and that I could view them from down the hall if I was interested. I left all my belongings at the table and followed her into one of the Club ballrooms, finding Brendan standing in the center of the darkened room surrounded by candles. He got down on one knee, and my answer was obviously yes!

TELL US ABOUT FINDING YOUR WEDDING DRESS/ATTIRE:

Like so many women, I knew my dress the moment I found it. It was the second dress I tried on but I was afraid to pick a dress so early in the process. Three more bridal appointments later and I was ready to admit what I already knew deep down: I’d found the perfect dress on day one!

DID YOU HAVE ANY DIY ELEMENTS?

Knowing how Northern California weather can change from searing heat during the day to cool and chilly at night, me, my mother, and my childhood best friend (who was one of my bridesmaids) took over my parents’ dining room to fold, roll, and hand-tie dozens of blankets to keep our guests warm through the night! They even made a great bonus favor for our guests!

DESCRIBE YOUR WEDDING FLOWERS:

My flowers were beautiful. White peonies and anemones to tie in with the navy blue of Brendan’s suit.

FAVOURITE DETAIL OF THE DAY:

Absolutely my flowers, they were pretty much a surprise because we weren’t sure that the flowers I wanted would be available, but our amazing florist came through and designed the most beautiful arrangements full of my favorite flowers!

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE OUT TO A COUPLE PLANNING THEIR WEDDING?

Hire a planner. It’s a relief to know you and your loved ones don’t have to worry about anything on your special day, and you can just focus on the magic.

MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT?

Walking down the aisle at the end of the ceremony and getting my first look at all of our guests. It was wonderful and overwhelming to see all of our friends and family together at once!

WHAT ASPECT OF THE WEDDING WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT TO YOU BOTH?

The vows- we had an unofficial competition about whether or not my vows would make Brendan cry (they totally did!). It was so sweet sharing our heartfelt words with all of our guests.

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR HONEYMOON:

We had to postpone our honeymoon to Antarctica due to COVID-19. Instead we enjoyed a “minimoon” in Sonoma and Mendocino the week after the wedding. It was so beautiful and I loved sharing some of my favorite places in CA with my new husband who is from the East Coast.

IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD CHANGE OR DO DIFFERENTLY?

It was absolutely perfect! The only thing we would have changed would be to extend the length of the reception- we never wanted to the night to end!
